“I was keen on stocking some big brand names because we were not known for branded products up till a couple of years ago. We had several requests on the wish list for washing powder. We wanted something that customers would find really convenient for home delivery, consumable and that would help them get above the carriage free threshold on orders. There is a lot of brand loyalty with this washing powder”

Proctor and Gamble have a very good website with lots of information on how to use their products to the best advantage. I found this page really useful for information on how to remove difficult stains with a drop down menu of every nasty problem the housekeeping team are likely to encounter. Removing Stains.
With a sadly familiar image of the red sock peeping out from a machine load of now pink sheets their page "Undo your laundry disasters" will assist when common disasters occur. Although even Proctor and Gamble have to admit defeat when it comes to rescuing the stray mobile phone!
There are lots of handy tips on this website however one of our own is to remember to wash cream or ivory coloured articles as coloureds NOT whites as the optical brighteners will lighten them to white. Not a disaster though, usually the depth of colour is restored with the correct washing.
Unfortunately a lot of skin care preparations and face wash can contain mild bleaching agents and these can result in coloured towels developing a light patchy appearance and unfortunately this isn't usually reversible. In the same way coloured towels that have been used to dry out the bath can have their colour spoiled by residue of cleaning products containing certain chemicals.

As my business has grown, it has become apparent that some clients are tied to their current laundry service provider because they also provide the bed linen for them, and to switch to my service would involve them needing to purchase their own bed linen and towels which can involve quite a lot of expense.

I am pleased to say that I am now able to offer to supply quality bed linen and towels where necessary and by arrangement.

I don't keep a very large ready supply of new linen and towels but rather discuss with clients their colour schemes etc and what they feel would compliment their own businesses. Quite often clients want to purchase their own linen, but like advice as to where to start looking for good quality, durable bedding which will withstand the rigours of constant laundering.

I always recommend Out of Eden as their linen and towels are hotel quality standard, they are a local supplier, competitive on price, and I have always enjoyed excellent service from them.


Once we have agreed on what would be the best designs moving forward, I order the bed linen and towels for clients so that they start with good quality, new linen which adds value to their own cottages in the eyes of their visitors.

Another benefit of choosing bed linen personal to a client is that each individual clients laundry is easily distinguishable and so errors don't occur whereby clients are left with an incorrect amount of laundry delivered back which finds them a little short and struggling to make up the beds, which is more likely to happen if everything is all white and of a similar design.

I thought I would give South Lakes Laundry a try, and I'm so glad I did, the service is second to none, it's reliable, it's taken all the worry of the laundry from my mind, and visitors often comment on how wonderful and fresh the bedding feels and smells!
